Owen became hooked on glass about 2 years ago. For him the beauty and fascination of glass lies in the interplay with light, and the resulting illumination of the colour within. He loves the ability to look into the glass and see the miniature galaxies of bubbles. He just loves colour! He works with kiln-formed glass, fusing layers of dichro glass with enamel colours. Much of the inspiration for the pieces he creates comes from the natural world. He is from Scotland, and loves the beautiful marine colours and textures of the west highland coastline. He is based in Glasgow, where the landscape and history also continues to fuel his creative imagination.
The main characteristics of his glass is that it has a transmitted colour and a completely different reflected colour, as certain wavelengths of light either pass through or are reflected. This causes an array of colour to be displayed. The colours shift depending on the angle of view. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be predicted, so each piece of fused glass is completely unique.
