Katharina Kubrick

From 1960 the Kubrick family travelled a great deal between the US and the UK following her father’s film projects, hence attending a great many schools in New York and London. After taking A-Levels at King Alfred School in Hampstead, she went to study at the Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting in London. In 1973/4 she took a break from art school to travel to Ireland and work as a location photographer on "Barry Lyndon". It was on one of the sets that she started sketching for her "Sparks" painting. She continued to paint and was employed as art department assistant working for Ken Adam on the Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me" where one of her jobs as the assistant was to design the teeth for "Jaws"! She then went on to work on TV commercials and films as prop designer, draughswoman, location photographer, set painter, model maker and art director; including "Moonraker", "Midnight Express", "Sphinx", "The Muppet Movie", "The Dark Crystal", "Saturn 3", "Supergirl" and "The Shining". She left the film industry in 1984 when she married and have three sons. In 1987 started to paint again. She now paints full time and is working towards a one woman show in London but as her paintings take so long to finish, very few of her originals are available at the moment. This is why her work is mostly available in signed limited edition giclee format. All of Katharina’s prints are limited to 100. Katharina was born on Christmas Day 1953 in Germany. When she was around 3 years old her mother and her moved to America, where she married Stanley Kubrick. |
