Alexandra Steele

Alexandra Steele was born 23rd January 1946 and educated in Scotland.  She lives in central Scotland and for over twenty five years has been a visiting specialist art teacher to many primary schools in the area.

She gave up teaching in 2001 and is now painting full time.

Her style has been influenced by French Impressionism and by the Scottish Colourists – particularly, Peploe.  For some time she concentrated on still life painting but has recently developed a distinctive approach to landscape and is particularly drawn to the west coast of Scotland’s isolated beaches, luminescent skies and seas, lonely cottages and patchwork fields.

She has exhibited extensively throughout Scotland and her first London exhibition was at the New Grafton Gallery in December 1999.  This was such a success that she is now one of that gallery’s regular contributors.  Sandra how also exhibits regularly at The Richmond Hill Gallery, Richmond; The Hicks Gallery, Wimbledon and The Russell Gallery, Putney.
